What is schiller duval body?

Schiller-Duval bodies, named after German pathologist Friedrich von Schiller and French pathologist Georges Duval, are highly specific histological structures that are found primarily in yolk sac tumors, a malignant neoplasm of germ cells in the testes or ovaries, and are often seen in pure embryonal carcinomas. Schiller-Duval bodies consist of a central capillary surrounded by tumor cells arranged in a glomerular pattern, resembling the primitive glomeruli of the embryonic kidney. These structures are a characteristic feature of yolk sac tumors and embryonal carcinomas and play a vital role in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
